Despite the fame and popularity of the Jurassic Park series, it has never been known for flawless films or precise storytelling; it’s known for dinosaurs and solid, fun acting. While Dominion goes all-in with the fun acting aspect, it’s strange how the dinosaurs, in many ways, take a back seat. Sure, they’re around and they participate in the movie, aiding several fun action scenes, but for the first time in the entire canon they aren’t the centerpiece of the film.

That said, the driving narrative force is still DNA manipulation gone wrong. It feels loosely connected, almost a spin-off of Jurassic World at times, but even so it is reasonably well conceived and plotted. It’s just not very special.

It’s indeed fun to see the original cast return. Though Trevorrow valiantly attempts to insert them into meaningful roles, they never feel necessary, which diminishes the experience of seeing them once again.

At its best it is good action, enjoyable acting performances, and nostalgia; still, its worst is a mixture of the most commercial aspects of The Avengers and The Fast and The Furious  series and plotlines with characters unnecessarily inserted into the film simply to extend the runtime and pile on the familiar faces. In the end it’s the type of movie that you can enjoy in the theater without ever really thinking about again.
